What concreting costs in Australia

A plain or broom finished slab is the cheapest option and suits sheds, paths and basic driveways. Decorative finishes like coloured concrete, exposed aggregate and stencil cost more because of the extra materials and labour. Polished concrete for interior floors sits at the top of the range.

Prices assume reasonable access and a site that is close to level. Excavation, fill, steep or awkward sites, and pumping concrete to a hard to reach spot all add cost. For the raw volume of concrete you need, use the concrete volume calculator.

FinishTypical range per m²
Plain or broom$80 to $130
Coloured$100 to $160
Exposed aggregate$120 to $175
Stencil or pattern$110 to $165
Polished (interior)$200 to $400

Common questions

How much does a concrete driveway cost?

A standard driveway of 30 to 50 m² with a plain finish usually costs $2,400 to $6,500 supplied and laid. Decorative finishes like exposed aggregate add to that.

Why is exposed aggregate more expensive?

Exposed aggregate uses a decorative stone mix and an extra washing and sealing step, so there is more material and labour than a plain finish.

Does the price include excavation?

Often not. Digging out, removing spoil and preparing the base can be quoted separately, especially on a sloping or filled site, so ask what is included.

These figures are estimates to help you plan and sense check quotes. They are not a quote. Site access, materials, finish and your location all move the final price. Always get two or three written quotes.
