Tiling cost per square metre in Australia
Tiling is usually priced per square metre. Labour only rates apply when you supply the tiles yourself, which is common. Wet areas like bathrooms cost more because they need waterproofing, more cuts around fittings, and careful work to falls and drains.
Tile size and layout change the price too. Large format tiles and simple grids are quicker, while mosaics, herringbone patterns and lots of small cuts take longer. Small jobs often carry a higher rate per metre because of setup and minimum charges.

Labour only is roughly $45 to $130 per square metre depending on the area and difficulty, and supply and install with mid range tiles runs about $80 to $220 per square metre.
Why do bathrooms cost more to tile?
Wet areas need waterproofing to standard, more cuts around the toilet, vanity and shower, and careful falls to the drain. That extra work lifts the rate per metre.
Should I supply my own tiles?
Many people do, which is why labour only rates are common. Just order a little extra for cuts and breakages, and confirm the tiler is happy to lay tiles they did not supply.
